Led by principals, Reid Freeman, A.I.A. and James Carpenter, Architecture Operations DPC (ArcOps) is a full service architecture firm focused on institutional and cultural projects where it effectively and profoundly enhances the experience of social and cultural spaces. ArcOps comprehensively engages its clients in pre-design to explore deeper issues of planning and programming, emphasizing daylight and light as an organizing principle capable of defining extraordinary, effective and intuitive public spaces.
ArcOps and the client initiate a project by establishing a clearly conceived conceptual framework. The framework guides studies of the site’s physical and historical context; the choice and testing of materials; the dialogue with the client and the engagement of stakeholders and local interest groups. From this process, the design can emerge and be refined employing study models; full scale mock-ups and prototypes; and finalized in consultations with engineers, fabricators and other specialists. ArcOps realizes a project through every phase, from initial planning, through construction and closeout.
Reid Freeman, an architect licensed in six states including New York, and James Carpenter, an artist and designer worked together at James Carpenter Design Associates Inc (JCDA), for over eight years, and ArcOps was founded to extend the reach and depth of their more than 55 years of accumulated knowledge. In collaboration, ArcOps and JCDA offer a unique synthesis of creative ideas and technical expertise that straddles the fields of art, architecture and engineering, while forging creative implementations of innovative technologies that result in civic spaces that are engaging and timeless.
